M. Carey Thomas frequently held receptions and entertained guests at the Deanery. Her primary dinner service was a large set of Minton porcelain with pink floral details, but she supplemented it with many other sets, including numerous Limoges serving platters and dishes. This cake plate, which has an all-over gold finish, is the only piece surviving from a dessert set that originally included a matching leaf-shaped plate and 18 teacups and saucers.
