Description: The landscape woodblock prints of Ando Hiroshige are especially famous for the beauty of their composition and the feeling of reality that they express. He published several series of landscapes, depicting different views of the Japanese landscape along roads or within cities, and is partly credited with the revival of landscape woodblock prints in nineteenth-century Japan.

This work is forty-seventh in the series Sixty-Nine Stations of the Kisokaido, which was illustrated jointly by Hiroshige and Ikeda Eisen. In this work, Hiroshige depicts the hilly mountain pass between the post towns of Oi and Okute, where weary horses and cold travelers face the prospect of a long and snowy night.
