This case is almost certainly a fake for a variety of reasons. First of all, for a vase which purports to be Attic, the clay is far too red. Secondly, the shape of the foot is unparallelled on any amphora illustrated in <CVA>. Thirdly, the glaze is frequently vertically painted, a very strange feature. Fourthly, there is a plug inserted in the middle of the base in a hole which does not seem to be due to any natural cause. Fifthly, the maeander pattern below the main scene is very uncommon on panelled amphoras. Sixthly, the maeander extends under the glaze to both sides of the panel, another strange feature. Finally, in Beazley there is no parallel for the scene which shows Hermes seated at the right with his right arm raised holding a kantharos, a hoplite in the center and an old man (the warrior's father ?) at the left holding a staff with a dog beside him.", "Dedication" : "", "Copyright_Type" : "", "Disp_Obj_Type" : "Attic", "Creation_Place2" : "Greece", "Department" : "Classical Archaeology", "Obj_Name" : "", "Period" : "Attic ( almost certainly a fake)", "Style" : "", "Edition" : "", "Curator" : "", "Images": [ { "ImagePath" : "https://triarte.brynmawr.edu/Media/images/CL0005.jpg", "ThumbnailPath" : "https://triarte.brynmawr.edu/Media/Thumbnails/CL0005.jpg", "PreviewPath" : "https://triarte.brynmawr.edu/Media/Previews/CL0005.jpg", "IIIF_URL": "http://iiif.gallerysystems.com/CL0005.jpg", "IsPrimary" : "0", "_SurrogateID" : "92742", "Image_Type" : "", "Photo_Credit" : "", "Remarks" : "", "View" : "" } , { "ImagePath" : "https://triarte.brynmawr.edu/Media/images/CL0005c.jpg", "ThumbnailPath" : "https://triarte.brynmawr.edu/Media/Thumbnails/CL0005c.jpg", "PreviewPath" : "https://triarte.brynmawr.edu/Media/Previews/CL0005c.jpg", "IIIF_URL": "http://iiif.gallerysystems.com/CL0005c.jpg", "IsPrimary" : "0", "_SurrogateID" : "92743", "Image_Type" : "", "Photo_Credit" : "", "Remarks" : "", "View" : "" } , { "ImagePath" : "https://triarte.brynmawr.edu/Media/images/CL0005d.jpg", "ThumbnailPath" : "https://triarte.brynmawr.edu/Media/Thumbnails/CL0005d.jpg", "PreviewPath" : "https://triarte.brynmawr.edu/Media/Previews/CL0005d.jpg", "IIIF_URL": "http://iiif.gallerysystems.com/CL0005d.jpg", "IsPrimary" : "0", "_SurrogateID" : "92744", "Image_Type" : "", "Photo_Credit" : "", "Remarks" : "", "View" : "" } , { "ImagePath" : "https://triarte.brynmawr.edu/Media/images/CL0005b.jpg", "ThumbnailPath" : "https://triarte.brynmawr.edu/Media/Thumbnails/CL0005b.jpg", "PreviewPath" : "https://triarte.brynmawr.edu/Media/Previews/CL0005b.jpg", "IIIF_URL": "http://iiif.gallerysystems.com/CL0005b.jpg", "IsPrimary" : "1", "_SurrogateID" : "92746", "Image_Type" : "", "Photo_Credit" : "", "Remarks" : "", "View" : "" } , ] }, ] }
