These artifacts stem from a long tradition of making highly faithful models which were used as toys to teach necessary skills and customary lifeways to children. Frederica de Laguna, founder of the Bryn Mawr anthropology department and a noted Arctic anthropologist, donated these and over 400 other artifacts to the College’s ethnographic and anthropological teaching collection. This figure was featured in the 2010-2011 'Worlds to Discover: 125 Years of Collections at Bryn Mawr College' exhibition. Carving of a hunter; hooded, round face, legs created by removing part of the bottom of the tooth between the two legs, etched lines around hips imply texture of clothing; right arm is upraised holding a delicate tipped spear; left hand is holding coiled string that is tied to the spear.", "Dedication" : "Gift of Frederica de Laguna, Class of 1927, Professor of Anthropology", "Copyright_Type" : "", "Disp_Obj_Type" : "", "Creation_Place2" : "Greenland", "Department" : "Anthropology", "Obj_Name" : "figurine", "Period" : "", "Style" : "Arctic", "Edition" : "", "Curator" : "", "Images": [ { "ImagePath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/images/2006.4.16_BMC_pr.jpg", "ThumbnailPath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/Thumbnails/2006.4.16_BMC_pr.jpg", "PreviewPath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/Previews/2006.4.16_BMC_pr.jpg", "IIIF_URL": "http://iiif.gallerysystems.com/2006.4.16_BMC_pr.jpg", "IsPrimary" : "1", "_SurrogateID" : "13315", "Image_Type" : "", "Photo_Credit" : "", "Remarks" : "", "View" : "" } , ] }, ] }
