A woman in a high girt chiton, a saccos on her head, kneels right on a table (or bench) and throws the astragaloi. Abover her head is a bond of bosses, then an egg and dart band and above this a concave band of fine rouletting. This may well be from the shop of the Ateii. This piece is probably not Italian. It bears a relationship to finds from Haltern in the Lower Rhine. There is a similar figure on a piece found at Corinth. The production center is probably Italy (Europe, Italy), as the fabric and slip (fairly pale and light with a matt orange-red slip) are similar to this region. On the exterior of the vessel, at the top of the fragment is a band of concave rouletting and below this is a groove at the point of inflection from body to neck. The main decorative panel of the vessel begins under this with an ovolo and a band of bosses. Below, sits facing right on a table or bench, doing something with her right hand. She wears a high tied chiton and a saccos. On the interior of the vessel, there is an interior groove set just beneath the exterior groove.
