See attached datasheet.

From conservation report:
The featherwork mosaic dress is visually consistent with a similar to a group of
miniature garments found in an cache in Ullujaya, in the Ica Valley on the south
coast of Peru, dating to 12th-13th centuries. (King 2012, p. 3). These miniature
garments were ritual objects and were buried as offerings to Ica culture deities
(King 2012, p. 188). The Ica culture existed between 700-1400 CE in the south
and central Andes Mountains, and was contemporaneous to other coastal
cultures that produced featherwork, including the Chimú, Sicán, Ichma (Ichsma),
and Chancay (King 2012, p. 31).
Ica miniature garments are simple plain woven rectangular cotton panels that are
covered with feathers at the front and back. The panels were folded in half to form a
square-shaped garment. The front of the garments includes different colored feathers
that are clipped and arranged to create designs. The back of the garments have two
variations: they are either covered with feathers of a single color, or covered with
feathers of a single color with a horizontal stripe design of clipped feathers of different
color than the background.
The panel is most likely a miniature Ica dress. The terms 'dresses' and 'tunics' refer to
female and male garments, respectively. These miniature tunics and dresses follow
construction and visual design of the life-size Ica garments. In most cases however, the
openings in votive dresses and tunics would have been closed shut and the miniature
garments were never used (refer to 1979.209.639 in the Metropolitan Museum of Art
collections online).

Male garments were long rectangular panels that were folded horizontally in half to form
the tunic. The sides were left open for arms. The top of the garment included a slit
opening for the head. The front feather design is usually a yoke-shaped motif (refer to
Figs. 3.1, 3.4, and 3.5). Because the male garments were folded horizontally in half, the
front and back featherwork designs were vertically placed next to one another during
their construction. The front and back feathers had opposite orientation. Tunics also
often included silver medallion in their decorative programs (Uceda and King 2012, p.
77).
In contrast, female garments were long rectangular panels that were folded vertically in
half to form a dress (this fold is demonstrated with Fig. 3.5). The edge opposite the fold
was sewn shut. Openings for the arms and head were made at the top of the garment,
and they were horizontal slits at the edges and center. The front feather design is usually
a stepped pyramid in a checkerboard arrangement. Because the female garments are
folded in half, the featherwork designs were placed adjacently next to one another during
construction. The front and back feathers had the same orientation.
According to visual analysis, this panel appears to be a miniature duress. However, it is
flat with no indication of stitching that would have joined the panel edges into a garment
form, unlike those shown in publications. It is therefore unclear if this garment was ever
completed and include slits for the head and arms.

", "Dedication" : "Gift of Ward M.
