African Red Slip Ware? Nickie Colosimo, 7/22/2011. The fragment was probably produced in North Africa, Africa. Hayes 1972 describes Africa Red Slip ware as having an orange-red to brick-red fabric with a rather granular texture of the ware. The slip is a refined version of the body-clay, but is not glossy or reflective, being only a shared or two darker than the fabric. This seems to describe P.387 rather well, so I believe it is possible for it to be classified as African Red Slip Ware. African Red Slip Ware rim fragment from an open, plainware vessel, a bowl. The rim is flaring with a triangular lip. Internally, there is a groove just under the lip. There are similarities to Hayes Form 67, a large bowl with curved, slightly sagging body, flat base, and two part flaring rim. The fragment would reflect the outer part of the rim.
