The fragment preserves portions of the convex side walls and a nearly straight, horizontal flange projecting outward from the sides approximately 9 mm below the rim; the uppoer surface of this flange is decorated in barbotine with pointed leaves and stems. Dragendorff 38 is a common shape found in all Gaulish terra sigillata; however, the nearly horizontal flange placed slightly below the rim and the lack of a curving edge would place this example at the end of the 1st century to the turn of the 2nd century AD. Nickie Colosimo 7/26/2011, The production center is Central Gaul (Europe, France, Lezoux; historic name is Ledosus), as the fabric and slip (orange fabric and an orange slip) are similar to this region. I don’t think it can be Dragendorff Form 38 as the flange in this fragment is just under the lip. In Dragendorff Form 38 the flange occurs in the middle of the vessel body. Also, the flange here in this fragment is straight like that in Curle Type 11 while the one in Dragendorff 38 is much more curved. I think it is more likely Curle Type 11, which has a decorated flange just under the lip. Therefore, Not Dragendorff Form 38 as suggested earlier, but more likely Curle Type 11, a wide bowl with horizontal, decorated flange and occasionally with a spout. The flange holds decoration in the form of a leaf applied en barbotine.
