At the top of the fragment, there is a double bordered squared ovolo with a thin straight tongue ending in a swollen tip. Tongues continuous with the ovolo are on both sides. Beneath this band is a bead row with large elongated beads. Beneath this is a metope/panel decoration which is divided by a vertical bead row with a rosette terminal. On the left a plant stem trails down from the rosette terminal. On the right is part of a plant stem and a trefoil leaf or flower. Slane’s notecard reads: 1) above the ovolo is a wide double groove separated by a slightly narrower ridge. 2) The ovolo band has large slightly squared double bordered ovolo, tongues on the right which is slightly separated and terminating in a swollen tip with a central hole. 3) A Bead row sits below the ovolo band. 4) The decorative frieze is divided into panel decoration a) a male nude figure resembling Dech 327 but reproduced exactly in S-S pl. 104, 3 by Paternus of Lezoux. b) divided from this by a cable, a godroon starting from a bead pattern with a short bead on either end of a long bead like S-S pl. 104,4 but cable and godroon touching at top. Slane suggests the potter is Paternus who has not been found in Scotland or Silchester before.
